Fellowcraft is an original rock and roll band from Washington DC. Brian and JR met in Federal Lodge #1, the oldest Masonic Lodge in the District of Columbia. They both had experience in live music, and became fast friends. In 2014, after a string of significant life events, JR was itching to start a band. A simple jam in JR's new home in Shaw led to a rooftop show. That led to more shows at numerous venues around DC, and the momentum continues. Today you can follow Fellowcraft's exploits and shenanigans on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and here on the home site.
In March 2015, Fellowcraft released their debut EP, "...the Singles", to rave reviews. The trio released their sophomore record, a full length album, "Get Up Young Phoenix", in January of 2016 to iTunes/Spotify/Amazon/Google Play and more. They have been featured in national broadcasts, radio, television, newspaper, numerous independent blogs, websites, and national podcasts. (Links available on the Reviews and News pages).
Fellowcraft is about revelry, energy, and independence. Brian, Brandon and JR are more than band mates, they're friends. The sound they seek is sonic authenticity; they want to tell their story, whatever it may be at the time, in a no nonsense way.
"We love making music, whenever, and wherever we can."
JR answers to many names, such as "Mac", "Mackey", "Big Mac", "Jonny", or "Jon Ryan". JR’s a veteran of the US Air Force, and spent 13 months overseas while enlisted. He’s been in a handful of bands, but none as influential (in his opinion) as Fellowcraft. He’s owes his start on guitar to his mom and dad. his mother taught him how to play, and his father taught him who played it best. When he’s not playing guitar he’s out watching other musicians, and supporting the DC local music scene. Back home in Dallas, Texas, he's either riding horses with his Mother; playing with his dogs, both boxers, Cody and Maxwell; or BBQ’ing with his Old Man.
Musical Influences: Blues, Garage Rock, and Classic Rock. Favorite Artists Include ZZ Top, the Black Keys, Lightnin’ Hopkins, BB King, Rage Against the Machine, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones.
Interesting Fact: JR has named all his guitars. The black Les Paul he plays in Fellowcraft is known as ‘Betty’.
DRUMS, BACKUP VOCALS
Brian, a type 1 diabetic and an FSU Graduate, grew up a military brat, and traveled all over the nation, until starting his second career and settling in DC. Brian started playing drums at age 11, and performed consistently, even into college. After a 12 year break from drumming, JR brought Brian out of retirement, and they started the band that became Fellowcraft. Brian's other side jobs include: Spinning and Bodypump group fitness instructor, professional facilitator, public speaker, and radio DJ for DC Music Rocks on WERA-LP 96.7FM. Brian's lifelong connection to type 1 diabetes is a catalyst for Fellowcraft's ongoing support for diabetic research and charities.
Musical Influences: Hip-Hop, R&B, and up-tempo workout music. Favorite artists include: Michael Jackson, Earth Wind and Fire, Ginuwine, Usher, 112, Nickelback, Fallout Boy, AC/DC, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
3 truths and a lie:
-Brian can perform Motown
-Brian once "brought down the house" singing a Katy Perry song at Karaoke
-Brian has performed as a stand-up comedian
-Brian has led a group of fans to a Fellowcraft Line Dance, which he created.
Bass, BACKUP VOCALS
Brandon’s love for music began in the early 90's when he heard his father play guitar in a Motown band. That love for music cemented in 5th grade when he was handed a tuba and entered what he lovingly refers to as The Band Geek Era. Brandon has since been, and will forever be, “all about that bass”.
Brandon was born and bred Ol’ Virginny and, despite appearing to be a well adjusted adult, was raised in the least populated county east of the Mississippi. He's a graduate of William and Mary with a degree in Business/Psychology and currently pays for his ridiculous bar tabs through software consulting and Karaoke prize money.
Musical Influences: Alternative, Hard, and Classic Rock. Favorite artists include: Red Hot Chili Peppers, 311, Twenty One Pilots, Nickel Creek, Incubus, and anything that makes you want to dance.
Likes: Boxing, puns, bourbon, proper grammar, lifting heavy things up and then putting them back down, sunsets, beaches, hugs, and equality
Dislikes: Being sweaty at inappropriate times and bros
